Services We Offer Our Community

Transportation

Providing transportation for the older adults who require regular visits for medical treatments in McGregor, Aitkin, Grand Rapids, Duluth, Brainerd or even the Twin Cities, some of our volunteers are willing to be regular drivers for these trips. Angels also provides rides to community gatherings and events to allow our clients a social element in their lives.

Computer Classes

Past co-chair Kathryn Beatty has provided basic computer classes in the past, and these classes were discontinued due to COVID. However, recognizing the need for clients to successfully use home computers, she continued providing one-on-one in-home training with ANGELS clients wishing to improve their computer skills. Interested clients can make an appointment to have Kathy meet with them in their home by calling the ANGELS office. Computer skills give homebound clients a 24/7 window out into the world and an important means of keeping in touch with friends and family.

Home Assessments

When contacted about a potential client, our first step is a telephone interview to assess the level and type of assistance needed. We triage the client's needs, to tailor the services we provide to meet the clients needs, and to assist the client in connecting with care providers to cover any needed services that Angels does not provide.

Thereafter, when appropriate, we schedule a home visit. This home assessment may result in identification of additional needs that were not initially identified.

A client intake form is completed, and a determination is made as to what level of cost sharing is appropriate. While clients are never denied services for failure to contribute toward our costs, client donations help us keep our doors open, and help to assure that we can continue to serve those in need in our communities.

Angels Foot Care Clinic

ANGELS foot care clinic is growing! RN Barb Rian's twice-monthly foot care clinic was fully booked, with a waiting list; as a result, Barb is now providing four days per month of foot care clinic services. This has become critically important for ANGELS clients needing foot care, since Riverwood recently stopped providing its foot care clinic services. Clients seeking foot care appointments should call the ANGELS office to schedule appointments. The routine cost to clients for these visits is $15. Great funding provides the remainder of the cost of each visit.

Deliveries

ANGELS volunteers provide delivery services to cover virtually every homebound client’s needs. Deliveries are available for groceries, medication, mail, and other household needs. In addition, our volunteers deliver AEOA frozen meals and Loaves and Fishes hot meals to clients in rural areas.

Chores

ANGELS volunteers help clients with a variety of household chores. These include household cleaning and organizing, simple meal preparation, and help with correspondence and writing monthly bills.

Heavier household tasks are also provided by volunteers, including yard work and snow removal, placement of safety bars and safety lighting, and installation of 911 property identification signs. In helping to keep clients’ homes safe, ANGELS provides and installs smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.

Community Meals

Our volunteers deliver AEOA frozen meals and Loaves and Fishes hot meals to clients in rural areas. Call the Angels office and get added to the list.

Angels also Co-Sponsors a joint community meal with a different organization monthly the third Wednesday of every month. The dinner is open to all! Friends, Families and Groups can join us at 5pm for coffee followed by dinner from 5:30 -6pm.

The Community Dinner is sponsored by local organizations, church groups and school programs to help support all the wonderful programs that the Angels offers our community. There is no charge for the meal, but “free will offerings” are appreciated.

  • When: Third Wednesday of the Month
  • Time: 5 to 6 pm
  • Where: McGregor Community Center located at 41442 Mn-65, McGregor, MN 55760

Alzheimer’s Support Group

ANGELS has been actively involved in Alzheimer’s Support groups in the past prior to COVID, and during the past year, ANGELS board members Sarah Duwell and Gayleen Touhey trained with the Alzheimer’s Association (Alz.org) to become certified in holding Alzheimer’s Support groups once again. Support groups meetings are held on the 4th Monday of every month, 11:00am-12:00pm, and are kept confidential so that families dealing with Alzheimer’s disease can fully and safely explore methods for how to deal with this devastating illness. To attend these meetings, call the ANGELS office.
